The week's main message is that a 5% rate regime is stress-testing the AI supply chain, and the selling hit financing structure more than fundamentals. Upstream chokepoint names with their own cash flow (TSMC, Micron) look mispriced rather than broken. Debt-funded builders and richly valued software look more vulnerable. The thesis of AI, robotics, space and biotech abundance is intact, but capital is getting pickier about who funds it.
Key signals
- The 10-year Treasury yield touched 5.21% on 10/13 and was 5.09% on 10/16. The 30-year was 5.43%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 4.5% on the week, its worst since June.
- The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) fell 15.7% in 8 trading days, from 13,217.8 on 10/6 to 11,137.3.
- TSMC reported Q3 revenue of $46.7B (+16.2% QoQ) and a 66.4% gross margin. Q4 guidance is $52.3–54.3B, and full-year USD growth is raised to about 44%. Capex is $60–64B. The stock still fell to 412.61, below the tracking pool's stop of 412.75.
- Oracle has free cash flow of -$45.8B and debt of about $169B. It fell 4.6% and is the poster child for AI debt-funding worries.
- Earnings are packed into the next two weeks: ISRG and SpaceX on 10/20; Meta, Tesla and Lam on 10/21; Microsoft and Alphabet on 10/28.
By theme
AI
- Gemini 4 Argon went GA on the API on 10/13. OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 voice. Meta's 816B open-weight Muse Spark and DeepSeek V4.1-Flash arrived (dates are secondhand and unconfirmed).
- Open-weight models are squeezing software pricing power. Palantir fell 7.2% and AppLovin hit a 52-week low after five target-price cuts in a week.
- Upstream, Nvidia trades at 13.5x forward earnings and Micron at 4.2x. Broadcom broke both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
Robotics
- Tesla reports 10/21. Optimus remains pre-revenue, and the valuation leans on the Optimus and robotaxi story.
- Intuitive Surgical reports 10/20. The briefing cut it to Hold on position discipline rather than any change in the thesis.
- Teradyne (test equipment plus cobots) co-invested in Multiply Labs' $75M Series B. In China, Unitree rose 5.4% against the market but trades at 83x price-to-sales.
Space
- SpaceX (SPCX) reports its first quarterly results since IPO on 10/20. It trades at 83.5x price-to-sales, right on its 200-day line.
- Rocket Lab fell 8% after Neutron slipped to 2027. AST SpaceMobile fell 8.6% after SpaceX bought low-band spectrum and Piper Sandler cut it to Neutral.
- L3Harris rose 3.3% on twice its average volume, the one space sub-sector that rose against the market. Q3 space-tech funding hit a record $20.8B.
Biotech
- Google Research's autonomous wet-lab agent found single-digit-nanomolar protein binders for cancer targets. It is direct evidence for the AI-plus-robotics-accelerates-discovery thesis.
- Recursion fell 16.7% on a $200M offering. Tempus fell 9%. Gene-editing names are heavily shorted (Beam 41%, Intellia 40.5%).
- Lilly sits 2.8% below its all-time high. Novo Nordisk was cut to Watch after weekly Wegovy prescriptions fell 2.7%.
Hong Kong, A-shares and crypto
- The Hang Seng was flat on the week (24,187) and the Hang Seng Tech Index fell more than 3%. Lenovo rose 8% on Vera Rubin NVL72 rack deliveries, and Shanghai Fudan rose 13% on a Q3 profit preview.
- CXO stocks dropped late on 10/16. WuXi AppTec (A-share) fell 6.6%. The briefing says fundamentals show no trend change and the draft export-control technology list excludes outsourced R&D and manufacturing services.
- Bitcoin was about $81,300 and Ether about $2,396. Spot ETFs had net outflows of $228M for BTC and $320M for ETH on the week.

Tenbagger radar
- The briefing contains no ten-bagger radar section, so there was no change to the watch pool today.
Risks to watch
- Rates and oil: the 10-year yield fell back from 5.21% to 5.09%, with Brent briefly touching $110. Whether it falls below 5% is the first variable for a tech rebound.
- Earnings: ISRG and SpaceX (10/20), Meta/Tesla/Lam (10/21), WuXi AppTec (10/26), Microsoft/Alphabet/Vertiv (10/28), Lilly and L3Harris (10/29). A guidance cut would erode the "mispriced upstream" framework.
- Stop-loss levels: Tencent (0700:HKEX) is 2% above its stop. Inovance (300124:SZSE) is 2.8% above its stop. Mindray's intraday low briefly broke its stop.
- Data gaps: US pre-fetch failed (0/100), so US figures come from yfinance. Several A-share opening prices look abnormal and are flagged for verification.
