Three "beat" reports on 10/28 got three different market verdicts, depending on where each stock sat against its 200-day average. The briefing makes no rating changes except Alphabet, moved from Hold to Watch. The cloud backlog numbers support the abundance thesis. The pricing reaction shows markets are now asking how AI capex gets funded, not how fast it grows.
Key signals
- Vertiv rose 16.5% on 3.4x average volume after adjusted EPS of 2.21 against 1.82 expected and a raised 2026 guide. GE Vernova fell 1.9% on 2.7x volume despite a beat, with orders up 96%.
- Alphabet fell about 10% after hours to 292.5, roughly 14% below its 200-day line. Google Cloud grew 103% and backlog reached $561B, but EPS was 2.12 against 3.02 expected, and 2027 capex will "increase significantly."
- Microsoft's Azure grew 48% (guidance was 44–45%). EPS was 4.89 against 4.72 expected, and the stock rose 2.9% after hours.
- The Fed held at 3.75–4.00% with two dissents in favor of a hike (Cook, Hammack). The 10-year yield was 5.05%.
- China's A-shares rebounded on 1.64 trillion yuan of turnover (ChiNext +3.40%, STAR 50 +2.45%). The briefing calls it a short-covering rebound with breadth but little height.
By theme
AI
- Cloud capex is turning into backlog: Google Cloud Q3 revenue was $30.7B, and Oracle's investor day set a FY2030 revenue target of $225B (stock +10.7%).
- Nvidia (-1.2%) and Broadcom (-2.2% after hours) trailed Alphabet's drop. Only AMD sits above both its 50-day and 200-day lines.
- Micron rose 5.9% and reclaimed its 50-day line after SK Hynix's quarter. Sandisk rose 7.7%.
- Celestica rose 8.4%, and Marvell is reportedly in talks to buy Lumentum (Lumentum +8.7% after hours). No final deal has been reached.
Robotics
- Shanghai's plan to put 8,000 humanoid robots into factories by 2028 lifted A-share robotics: Inovance +5.3%, Shuanghuan +8.9%, UBTech (HK) +9.2%.
- Sanhua's Q3 net profit fell 9.6%, yet the stock rose 4.6% before the report. It is the deep-dive name, and 10/29 is the test day.
- Four Symbotic executives sold shares on 10/26–10/28, the only insider-selling signal in robotics this week.
Space
- The sector lagged. SpaceX fell 2.3% and closed 0.4% below its 200-day line (145.86).
- Rocket Lab (+0.5%) and AST SpaceMobile (+0.8%) were roughly flat, while Viasat jumped 11.3% on no company news.
- Starship Flight 15 is no earlier than 11/8. Space stocks sit 27–47% below their 200-day lines.
Biotech
- Beam rose 15.6% on first BEAM-301 clinical data. Wedbush cut its target from 65 to 28 the same day, so interpretation is split.
- Schrödinger (+15.5%), Absci (+12.4%) and Twist (+8.5%) jumped alongside two Baker lab Nature papers on AI-designed proteases. The briefing notes several of these now trade above consensus targets.
- Nasdaq healthcare led all sectors at +2.11%.
Hong Kong, A-shares and crypto
- Hong Kong memory and optical names bounced. SMIC rose 5.4% with HK$533M of southbound net buying, but southbound flows were net negative for the full day (HK$804M sold).
- Dongshan Precision's H-share debut broke issue price, with retail subscription at only 0.52x.
- Bitcoin is near 81,219, just under its 50-day line (81,832), on thin volume. Neocloud stocks gave back 3–5% after hours.

Risks to watch
- 10/29 confirmation day: Celestica must hold 283, KLA 165, Sanhua 34.97 and Alphabet roughly 290. Alphabet's 292.5 after-hours price is already below its 200-day line.
- Earnings: Eli Lilly (10/29 pre-market), Amazon, Intel, Sandisk and Illumina (10/29 after close), Regeneron (10/30), AMD (11/3), Arm and Coherent (11/4). Many A-share Q3 reports land 10/29–10/31.
- Stop-loss proximity: BeiGene H, Mindray and AVIC UAV (688297:SSE) are within 2% of their stops, judged on closing prices.
- Rates and policy: the 10-year at 5.05% pressures Vistra and leveraged Neoclouds. Bitcoin must hold 79,145. Midterm elections are 11/3. MAS stablecoin rules are not yet in force.
